'Tis the Season... for busy schedules, year-end deadlines, family obligations, holiday gift shopping / wrapping / mailing, cold mornings, shorter days, unhealthier meals, (insert your longer list here!). It's so easy to focus on the many ways that life and time are pulling at us as 2016 wraps up and we can swim in the overwhelm and frustration of it all. Or maybe that's just me?! I was in baby pose in yoga class yesterday, with my busy mind finally being quiet for a moment. And the word of the week gently slid into my awareness. Equilibrium - "a state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced; a calm state of mind." This is the time of year where we tend to get caught up in the chaos, the push-pull of our own and everyone else's needs and agendas, and forget what our natural calm state of mind feels like. Words have such power. Can you feel the peace that vibrates in the word "equilibrium"? Perhaps pause for a moment, close your eyes, and simply say the word slowly and calmly a few times. Let the energy of the word soak all the way into your bones, your nerves, your heartspace. Calm. Balanced. State of mind. It's always a choice, right? We determine our own state of mind, and it can change in an instant. I don't always have equilibrium, but I'm being offered lots of practice through contrast. As the new Mama of a 10-month old rescue puppy, our 40-pound Star can take me from calm to furious faster than I thought possible by challenging me to practice balance between "opposing forces." As much as I am learning to love him (did I mention that I've never owned a dog before?!), I also feel old fears swirling inside when he bites and barks at me. And so we are working on healing together, clearing the emotional stories we both carry about pet-human relationships. I am finding that when I am calm, grounded, and steady in my intention to understand and love him... he can meet me there. Maybe one of the reasons he is in our family is to teach me daily how much I influence those around me through my own equilibrium. A powerful lesson, indeed. In this week's Healing Our Souls, Star and I hang out with my friend and client, Brendan Fitzgibbons, and his rescue dog, Willie. Yes, there are lots of treats being fed to our dogs as we chat! It's definitely an entertaining hour! And I hope you join us on Sunday as we gather in community for a "calm state of mind" together with Viben. This month you can bring a guest for free each week, as we build our Tribe and spread peace through the land. Wishing you a beautiful weekend and sending so much love...
