Our 2016th year on Earth is slowly (or maybe for you - very quickly!) wrapping up, as we prepare to spend time with family for the holidays. Today, as I sit with my husband and new puppy both napping on the couch next to me, it feels like the perfect time to contemplate this idea of family. Family actually has many definitions according to Google: "a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household," "all the descendants of a common ancestor," or "a group of people united in criminal activity" - what?! It was interesting to see how our culture and evolving times have changed and expanded this concept of family. From the "Mom - Dad - married with - two children" norm of many years ago to the definition below that I resonated with the most. Family... "A person or people related to one (ie. me), and so to be treated with a special loyalty or intimacy." The word related offers such an expansive way to see family connections. It doesn't necessarily have to happen through blood or marriage any more. While our siblings, parents, cousins, grandparents, in-laws, etc. all can be primary / family relationships in our lives... so can the people we "relate" to through our hearts. And those people might not meet society's definitions for family, but the feeling of love is so real and powerful that there's really no other word that captures their importance to us - "to be treated with a special loyalty or intimacy." For me, the holiday "family" time started last night when two of my favorite friends drove in from New York with their puppy to spend just one night here and then continue on to Chicago to be with their family for a few days. We had a few hours to chat late last night when they arrived and then a few hours again this morning before they left. And my heart was smiling and dancing with joy the whole time! We watched our dogs connect and play, shared stories, talked about next year's goals, and felt the pleasure of being with those you love who just "get you." The best of gifts! In this busy world where we rely on technology to help us all stay connected, there is still nothing better (in my opinion) than being live with your family, cuddling on the couch, seeing their eyes and expressions right in front of you, and feeling hearts connecting. May we all be gifted with more of those moments! As we wrapped up 2016, it also felt important to honor the support of my husband, Brad, who has been my rock and cheerleader through a year filled with stretching and expanding my Soul! You can meet him on this week's Healing Our Souls episode, and see why I find him so amazing. We will be gathering as "family" for our weekly Viben call, but on Monday, December 26th at 10am ET instead of Sunday, to honor the holiday weekend. This is the last week of the month when you can bring a guest for free, so please invite a friend and expand peace in our communities. Thank you for being part of my family during this powerful and beautiful year. I wish you a magical holiday time with your family! "Peace on Earth"... is my greatest wish for humanity. Peace is defined as "freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility; freedom from or the cessation of war or violence." It doesn't feel like that's going to happen any time soon if you're watching the news, does it? Peace can feel so far away, so impossible, so out of reach. People often laugh at dreamers who earnestly implore others around them to help hold their peaceful vision for the future. One of our greatest dreamers was John Lennon. Remember these lyrics from Imagine? "Imagine there's no heaven, It's easy if you try No hell below us, Above us only sky Imagine all the people living for today Imagine there's no countries, It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I'm a dreamer, But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us, And the world will be as one. Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger, A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people sharing all the world. You may say I'm a dreamer, But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us, And the world will be as one." What if the words he wrote generations ago could become reality? What if it could happen in our lifetime? That is the dream I hold close to my trusting heart. I invite you to join me for this week's Healing Our Souls episode, as we explore how our world can heal, bringing John Lennon's vision into actuality. And I hope you join us on Sunday as we gather in the Viben community to create "freedom from disturbance" by clearing out old stories and allowing in tranquility. 'Tis the Season... for busy schedules, year-end deadlines, family obligations, holiday gift shopping / wrapping / mailing, cold mornings, shorter days, unhealthier meals, (insert your longer list here!). It's so easy to focus on the many ways that life and time are pulling at us as 2016 wraps up and we can swim in the overwhelm and frustration of it all. Or maybe that's just me?! I was in baby pose in yoga class yesterday, with my busy mind finally being quiet for a moment. And the word of the week gently slid into my awareness. Equilibrium - "a state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced; a calm state of mind." This is the time of year where we tend to get caught up in the chaos, the push-pull of our own and everyone else's needs and agendas, and forget what our natural calm state of mind feels like. Words have such power. Can you feel the peace that vibrates in the word "equilibrium"? Perhaps pause for a moment, close your eyes, and simply say the word slowly and calmly a few times. Let the energy of the word soak all the way into your bones, your nerves, your heartspace. Calm. Balanced. State of mind. It's always a choice, right? We determine our own state of mind, and it can change in an instant. I don't always have equilibrium, but I'm being offered lots of practice through contrast. As the new Mama of a 10-month old rescue puppy, our 40-pound Star can take me from calm to furious faster than I thought possible by challenging me to practice balance between "opposing forces." As much as I am learning to love him (did I mention that I've never owned a dog before?!), I also feel old fears swirling inside when he bites and barks at me. And so we are working on healing together, clearing the emotional stories we both carry about pet-human relationships. I am finding that when I am calm, grounded, and steady in my intention to understand and love him... he can meet me there. Maybe one of the reasons he is in our family is to teach me daily how much I influence those around me through my own equilibrium. A powerful lesson, indeed. In this week's Healing Our Souls, Star and I hang out with my friend and client, Brendan Fitzgibbons, and his rescue dog, Willie. Yes, there are lots of treats being fed to our dogs as we chat! It's definitely an entertaining hour! And I hope you join us on Sunday as we gather in community for a "calm state of mind" together with Viben. This month you can bring a guest for free each week, as we build our Tribe and spread peace through the land. Wishing you a beautiful weekend and sending so much love... We are officially in December, wrapping up the last month of 2016! That can feel exhilarating to some and overwhelming to others, depending on what has happened (or not!) in your year. It can be easy to turn to the things that we have NOT manifested since January or to be in Lack and look at the things we don't have as the holidays arrive. What if, instead, we shift our perspective and explore the word "Abundance"? Yes, that probably immediately throws up images of piles of money in your mind - an easy association to make. However, Google offers several definitions of the word, with this one resonating the most for me - "Plentifulness of the good things of life." "The good things in life." That expands abundance into SO many other areas! And what if we follow the advice offered by Abraham Hicks to "Make Peace with Outrageous Abundance." Hmmm... so abundance is dependent on if I am willing to receive it or not? Yup. And I have to make Peace with allowing in larger and larger levels of abundance? Yup. And I can get OUTRAGEOUS about it?! Yup! So, let's play with being Outrageous, shall we? I am challenging myself with some fun Abundance intentions for December that include Outrageous amounts of the "good things in life" in the form of:
Let's create more of ALL forms of Abundance! The timing is, of course, perfect, as this week's Healing Our Souls chat was with my friend and business coach, Theresa Lane, about enjoying Freedom Eating. Not restricting ourselves during the holiday season, but enjoying the abundance and pleasure of food by listening to our bodies. Theresa also shared her daily Gratitude practice that has led to powerful manifestations in her life of all kinds. You can check out the details for the video below. To continue with this theme of Abundance of the "good things in life", let's expand Love by spreading Peace across our Earth! For each week in December that you exchange for a Viben Call, my gift to you is a Free Invitation to Bring a Friend to the meditation. Or send them the link to listen to the recording the week after the call. Let's build an Abundant Community of peaceful meditators together... one friend at a time! Simply sign up to exchange below, as usual. Once you get your download email with the call details, send it over to your friend or family member and invite them to join us for that week as your guest. If they like it, they can come back the next week and invite one of their friends! And you can invite another friend... who loves the peaceful time to reflect ... and they invite their friend... And so we build the community together. This is how we wrap up 2016 and also change the world, my friends. All of us showing up for our Souls, healing the sticky places, expanding into more love, and inviting those we care about to join us. Wishing all of us Abundant Peace on Earth this Holiday Season.
